Identity Collage

My Work

1. I already knew I wanted to make my collage revolve around the music I listen to. Though I wasn't sure how to execute it, I knew what would be going into my collage. I then searched the web for album cover art and spreads from music magazines. I saved all of them into a folder and then opened PS. I created a new file, set my ratio to 8.5" by 11", and set my coloring to RGB 1998. After that, I got to work. I put the picture of myself down first and then created a mask so I could crop the background out. Then, I began layering my images behind me to create a sort of magazine spread look. I used Lighten and Screen for my blending modes. After layering the background, I created a mask for The Smiths' vinyls and had them peek out of my shoulders. Then, I created a clipping mask and erased the boxy-looking sections. I saved the collage as a JPEG and turned it in.

2. Blend modes help blend your photos together, which I did with every photo used. There are different types of blend modes. Layer masks are a way to erase parts of your image without causing any harm. I created layer masks for pictures that overlapped with my face. Adjustment layers give you more control when editing images and allow you to change the colors and tones in them without permanently messing up the pixels. I created an adjustment layer of myself.

3. My collage is a reflection of my music taste, and my music taste is a reflection of me. My life revolves around music so it only made sense to do this for my project.

4. I was successful at knowing what I wanted to do with my project. However, I struggled to remember how to use PS.

5. I think my project is a solid 3. I met the criteria but I didn't really go above and beyond by using new tools or anything.
